Summer Practice In The Studio

The heat radiates from the land, and from the roof. It is just past summer solstice now, and the sun is high above us. The little wren came here again yesterday, sitting singing on the huge ivy just right there, as we were teaching the saturday morning class, its joyous song coming in through the open door and window, such a small body yet so vibrant and harmonious. The warm air is all around us, and the studio has cooled overnight, from yesterday’s tremendous heat, and I’m so grateful to the trees who offer deep shade. The delicate creamy white Jasmin flowers are in full bloom under the huge bay, and my favorite scented geraniums shining pink, made it through yet another winter, now their scent and the deep blue English lavender flowers draw in butterflies, bees and other air-born insects hovering in and out. I’m drawn to many many little things, the more more I look and be still, the more I see and hear the air and ground humming with life.

Just watching this little piece of film from very early summer, its hard to believe how full and wide the foliage is now

Planning your summer practice, why not join us in August this year. We have programmed 12 classes, and self practice sessions, and a number of socials and special events. We’ll be holding morning asana classes, as well as recuperative evening classes, and you can choose to come to as many as you can, even join in online if you are away on hols. It will be fun and rejuvenating,

At the end of August we will be launching the Soundwalk into Wellbeing in Bridgford Park right opposite our studio. Originally designed by Isabel and Biant Singh. We will be using radio headphones to hear the location, with Isabel as sung and spoken guide, to take the group into nature, within the park, to receive the air and sound, and walk onto the earth. Afterwards we will enjoy a social, soaking up the sense of peace, joy, practice and community.

While over the summer, Isabel is working on a new soundart and voice project, exploring the beautiful yoga concept in Vedic philosophy: So Ham, or Ham So: I am that.  This is a Sanskrit mantra, and concept in meditation. In March next year Isabel will join Sue Lovell to bring the music together with Sue’s art, at the special Wye Valley Iyengar Yoga Centre in Wales
